What better way is there to start a discussion then over a drink? This Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28) we’re taking that statement literally - by asking our supporters to make a Bloody Mary and open the discussion around menstrual health and its importance.

Globally, 2.3 billion people live without basic sanitation services and in low income communities in Sub Saharan Africa, between 10-50% of girls are absent from school while menstruating.

We know that womxn around the world are resourceful, when faced with the challenge of not having access to traditional sanitary products, they use pillow stuffing, cloths and newspaper as substitutes, all of which lead to personal health hazards. We want all womxn to have the chance to manage their periods safely and with dignity.

Our menstrual cup, the Flowcup, is made from 100% medical grade silicon and can last up to 10 years. Which means a single cup, that only requires boiling water to become sterilised, can get a girl through her entire high school experience!

Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day on May 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management.

Poor menstrual hygiene caused by a lack of education on the issue, persisting taboos and stigmas, limited access to hygienic menstrual products and poor sanitation infrastructure undermines the educational opportunities, health and overall social status of women and girls around the world, according to Menstrual Health Day

Menstrual Hygiene Day aims to:

  • break the silence, raise awareness and change negative social norms around menstrual hygiene management, and

  • engage decision-makers to increase the political priority and catalyse action for MHM, at global, national and local levels.

We need people to start spreading awareness for the global issue of period poverty and what better way to do so than enjoying a bloody good drink, for a bloody good cause.

Let's raise our voices and our glasses because a world without period poverty is possible!
