Women With Vision - The Notorious R.B.G.

The world lost a legal, cultural and feminist icon and one badass woman on September 18. United States Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg—the notorious R.B.G—died after serving nearly 30 years on the bench. The Queen of Supreme made headlines for her workout routine and her love of jabot neck collars in recent years, but R.B.G. devoted her distinguished career to breaking down barriers for women. Rather than searching for the right words to honour the life and work of R.B.G, I believe words from the woman herself speak volumes.
Here are just a few of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s many iconic quotes which will continue to impact the generations to come:

“I ask no favour for my sex. All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks.”
“Feminism … [is the] notion that we should each be free to develop our own talents, whatever they may be, and not be held back by artificial barriers—man made barriers, certainly not heaven sent.”

“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”
“As society sees what women can do, as women see what women can do, there will be more women out there doing things, and we’ll all be better off for it”

"When I’m sometimes asked when will there be enough [women judges on the U.S Supreme Court]? And I say when there are nine, people are shocked. But there’d been nine men, and nobody ever raised a question about that."
"Women's rights are an essential part of the overall human rights agenda, trained on the equal dignity and ability to live in freedom all people should enjoy."

“In my life, what I find most satisfying is that I was part of a movement that made life better, not just for women … gender discrimination is bad for everyone.”

"I ... try to teach through my opinions, through my speeches, how wrong it is to judge people on the basis of what they look like, color of their skin, whether they’re men or women."
"Women will have achieved true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation."

"I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. And to help repair tears in her society, to make things a little better through the use of whatever ability she has.”
In keeping with her Jewish heritage, a traditionally appropriate response to her death is “may her memory be a blessing”. May we always be #blessed by her memory and groundbreaking work towards achieving gender equality in the days to come.
At The Cova Project, we believe in the power of women, which is why we are dedicated to providing menstrual health solutions to women around the world to close the 50 day school attendance gap. RBG believed in women too and I can think of no one better to spotlight on the topic of “Women With Vision” for #powerfulwomenweek2020.
